Important information for all customers travelling with a pet
Depending on where you live, the actions you need to take when travelling abroad with your pet may differ.
You must follow the most up-to-date guidance issued by the UK Government at all times. You can find these on the GOV.UK website. You must also always check the rules of the country you are traveling to for any additional restrictions or requirements before you travel.
Residents of Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
If you are a resident of Great Britain, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands and are planning to take your pet abroad in the EU and Northern Ireland, you need to ensure your pet has:
a microchip
a valid rabies vaccination
tapeworm treatment for dogs (If you’re travelling directly to Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway or Malta)
obtained a health certificate from your vet (one for each trip) that is dated a maximum of 10 days before you are due to travel.
Residents of Northern Ireland
If you are a resident of Northern Ireland travelling to Great Britain, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Republic of Ireland or anywhere in the EU with your pet, you are able to under the EU Pet Travel Scheme (known as PETS). This will provide you with a pet passport and allow you to take your pet temporarily to certain countries and return home, without putting your pet into quarantine.
To obtain a pet passport and understand the requirements for travelling with their pet, you will need to comply with the criteria set out at the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs website.
