The difference comes down to whether the policyholder is living at the property and/or are being paid rent.
Non-Family lodgers:
- The homeowner lives at the property along with the lodger
- The person living in the property is not a member of the customer’s family (child, brother/sister etc)
- There is a tenancy agreement in place
- The lodger pays rent
Family Let
- The homeowner does not live at the property
- The person living in the property must be a member of the immediate family i.e. parent(s), child(ren), grandparent(s), grandchild(ren), sibling
- The person occupying the property must not pay rent or pay any money to the owner for living in the property
- There is no tenancy agreement in place.
